In this blog post, I will take you through WITB (What’s In The Bag) for the 2020 golf season. Reflecting on 2019, I had a good golf season moving my handicap under 5. I intend to leave my setup intact for 2020 including the accessories I carry while playing.
My bag and setup optimizes walking the golf course. In 2019, I carried my clubs for approximately 70% of my rounds. This was a conscious decision made at the beginning of the 2019 season. I am continuing the “carry first” mantra into the 2020 golf season. If you are able to do so, I recommend walking a few rounds this coming season. It might change your WITB for golf in 2020!

Driver, 3-wood, Driving Iron
The longest clubs in my bag are all manufactured by Taylormade. I have found Taylormade to be the most beneficial to my game in both consistency and accuracy. The M4 driver addition to my bag in early 2019 has made an immediate impact on my scoring. I like the sound of impact and forgiveness of the Twistface technology. With this club, I average 275 yards off the tee. Shaft details: Head cover: Golden Soul Golf.
I carry a 3-wood and use off the tee. It is a Taylormade M3 added in 2018. I have had ups and downs with this club and realized the oversized grip it came with to be the issue. I have since put on a regular grip to give me the same feel as the driver. Off the tee, my 3-wood will average 260 yards and about 250 yards off the deck. Shaft: Head cover: Sand Valley by Seamus Golf.
My favorite club in my WITB for 2020 is the GAPR 3-iron by Taylormade. This 3-iron shaft is longer than the standard iron giving it extra length. There is technology called SpeedFoam giving the club great feel and forgiveness. I use this club off the tee when I need to find a fairway and it averages 225 yards. I hit a high golf ball, so this is the club I will hit into a par 5. The shaft is KBS 80g stiff. No head cover.
Irons and Wedges
I have been playing Mizuno irons since 2004 when I picked up a set of MP-32s – LOVED these irons. Realizing I needed a touch more forgiveness, I bought a set of MP-52s in 2016. As a fan of Mizuno’s thin top line, the feel of forged irons and the ball flight. I carry 5-iron through PW ditching the 4-iron from my bag. I do not carry a 4-iron for weight purposes and the yardage gap is minimal. The shafts on all my irons are True Temper S300. Head covers: none.
I carry four wedges which includes the standard PW from the Mizuno set. The other three wedges have been recently upgraded in the past 6 months to Vokey SM7. The three Vokey wedges include; 51, 55 and 60 degree. My Mizuno PW is a 47 degree which gives me 4 degree gapping up to my lob wedge. I am a believer in upgrading wedges every couple years to keep the grooves fresh. Each wedge has a True Temper S300 shaft.
Putter
I am making a change at putter in 2020. I have used a Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2. Yet, I do not make enough putts with it.
The Taylormade SpyderX will be my gaming putter for 2020. I tested several mallet putters before landing on the SpyderX. For me, the feel off the face was different than any other mallet and was closest to the milled face I enjoy. The balanced face is more suited to my putting stroke and I am able to start more putts on line with it. Hoping to shave 3-4 strokes off my scores this year!
Bag and Accessories
My bag is a highlight of my WITB for 2020 golf. I picked up this Seamus Fescue Project golf bag in 2018 and love it. I use this bag 98% of the time regardless if I carry or ride. The bag has only increased in character over time. Read my full review on the Seamus Fescue Project Sunday bag here on Golf Wisely.
Using a “Sunday bag” as my every day bag forces me to be mindful of what I carry. This approach is due to the limited pockets and space found on a Sunday bag. Here is a list of items found in my bag every round:
Seamus zippered pouch with Erin Hills logo (for tees, markers, balls). This pouch is critical if using a Sunday Bag since it only has one zipper pocket which I use for my phone, wallet and car key.
- Seamus scorecard/yardage book holder with Erin Hills logo. The donegal tweed goes well with my bag and the inside leather gives the holder a nice feel.
- Bushnell Tour v4 rangefinder. I recently upgraded from a TecTecTec and am interested in using the slope on the Bushnell Tour v4.
- Vice golf glove. I tried the Vice golf glove in 2019 and was immediately impressed. The glove lasts several rounds and is incredibly soft. At less than $13 per glove, it is a good value.
- Miscellaneous items include; Black sharpie for marking golf balls. Ball markers, divot replacing tools and tees. I also wear a Garmin S20 watch for front/middle/back yardages. Finally, I also carry my Sony a6400 camera for taking golf photography. These photos go into my blog and Instagram account.
Golf Balls
After using the Vice Pro Plus, I have found them to be very playable and half the price per dozen as the competitors. Vice Pro Plus covers hold up for 18 holes and give me good responsiveness around the green. Overall, I am pleased and will purchase more Vice balls for 2020 (maybe WITH a Golf Wisely logo!).
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed reading about my WITB for golf in 2020. Updates will be made to the post as I swap out equipment and accessories. Follow my GolfWisely Instagram page for more content.

I carry my A6100 with me as well. What’s your fav lens for that bad boy? Looking for another to try out while carrying my bag as well.

What’s your fav Sony lens to have when you carry your bag? I know it’s tough to take multiple out there. What’s your go to?

Hi James – I use the Sony 35mm OSS 1.8 prime lens. I get great photos but its also compact enough making it easy to carry around.
