How can you find your golf style? And will your golf style impact scoring? Could there be a correlation? What about the theory of “look good, play good”? I would never suggest dressing nice will impact your score, however, what if I adjust it to “feel good, play good”? Now we are onto something!

Historically, my golf attire mirrored the brands I saw on TV including Nike, Under Armor and Adidas. These are the most prominent brands found on our favorite professionals on the PGA Tour. Last year, I felt my golf style needed a boost and I was not looking in the right place.

I started to research the golf apparel industry finding several brands sitting a layer or two below mainstream. In this blog, I will share some of my favorites to help you find your own unique golf style. The brands shared will branch out past the options found at big box stores.

Finally, at the end of the blog, I put together some outfits based on golfing occasion. Hope you enjoy! Please leave comments below, on my Instagram or directly on GolfWisely.

Golf Shirts

The golf shirt is the most noticeable piece of an outfit. Bold designs and patterns can help an individual make a statement. The same can be said for a simple monochromatic look. This choice comes down to personal preference – so experiment! Check out the below brands to determine if they fit your golf style.

  • Linksoul: Linksoul brands itself as a philosophy and experience more than a clothing company. Golfers will choose Linksoul more for the vibe but in return will get great golf attire and style.
  • Greyson Clothier: Greyson puts a focus on stylish, tailored golf clothing. These items will have a modern fit, look and on trend patterns.
  • Holderness & Bourne: H&B is most often found when shopping in a clubhouse. They do have an e-commerce presence, however, look for H&B at your favorite course with the club logo on the chest.
  • Bonobos: Bonobos has invested in its golf brand delivering on the same remarkable fits it is known for in their standard clothing line. Great looking patterns and fits can be found on their website.
  • Criquet: Criquet shirts have laid back style with roots in Austin, TX. The longer placket on the shirt give it a good 60s/70s vibe to when Arnold Palmer ruled the golf style world. Comfortable material make Criquet a great golf polo shirt option.

Golf Pants and Shorts

The golf pant and shorts market have come a long way over the past several years introducing better technical fabric like its golf shirt partner. I am a firm believer that the key to good golf style and pants is the fit. So often, golfers will choose pants or shorts too baggy assuming it is required to swing freely, however, the inclusion of technical and stretch fabrics have removed those concerns. Find your golf style in pants and shorts with a few of the options below.

  • Lululemon: The ABC pant and Commission pant are made with great quality and fit. Lululemon is not for your wife/girlfriend anymore. Same holds true for the shorts line.
  • Travis Mathew: TM has been on the market for quite some time. They fit into the low key vibe enhancing all our dad style out there. Simple design make the shorts (and other gear) very interchangeable.
  • Linksoul: See above.
  • Bonobos: See above.

Golf Shoes

Golf shoes (any shoes in general) bring an outfit together. The look and style should compliment the rest of the clothing. For me, I have landed on two brands that continue to develop stylish and comfortable golf shoes.

  • G/FORE: G/FORE came on the golfing scene a couple years ago making its biggest statement with its shoe line and golf gloves.
  • True Linkswear: True has put out some of the most comfortable and stylish golf shoes recently, in my opinion. True focuses on fit allowing golfers to comfortably walk round of golf.

Other Golf Brands to Watch

  • Kjus (for Outerwear): Kjus is some of the best outerwear golf gear you can find. The pieces come with a price so ensure you are ready to purchase an investment item.
  • Straight Down (for Outerwear): The brand Straight Down can also be found in your favorite club house pro shop typically with the golf course logo.
  • Union Green (for casual gear): Union Green was launched in Feb 2020 as a brand under Acushnet. The brand is focused on the casual golfer without expectations. I will be watching this newly minted brand closely.
  • Birds of Condor: Awesome golf gear aimed at a laid back style from a team based out of Australia.

Golf Style by Occasion

Playing with Buddies
On some occasions, a round of golf is just a reason to hang out with your friends. No reason to wear your best here as the drinks will be cold and the score does not matter. Take a laid back approach to your style with these items.

Hosting a Client
Golf and work sometimes collide. On the occasion you are hosting a client, find your golf style with fresh gear from Bonobos and G/FORE. The fit will have you looking “put together” on the course even if your swing is not top notch.

4-Person Scramble
We have all been to one of these. Usually a nice mixture of golf capabilities with the most important outcome being: have fun. Enjoy the day in comfortable (and stylish) clothes.
